M.A.G.S. 2023 Album!
"M.A.G.S. is the solo moniker for Buffalo-bred, Los Angeles-based artist Elliott Douglas. His style seamlessly glides between genres - from funky garage rock to minty alt-pop with a punk-inspired energy. Growing up, Douglas was immersed in music at a very early age, teaching himself drums, bass and guitar, picking up instruments belonging to different members of his family (his parents are musicians too). "I also got a demo of Adobe Audition,"" says Douglas when talking of his formative years ""and I started to mess around with the idea of simple songwriting and recording." Admittedly, the "local scene was a little dead at that point, and we got to be a part of starting a new wave of Buffalo bands," he remembers. "It was definitely a lightning-in-a-bottle scenario, a perfect storm of the right people playing the right kind of music at the right time."
Douglas soaked in every moment and learned what it meant to collaborate. He also gained a wider perspective on genre and fuses such exciting, rich musical dynamics, and charm into his work. That's where M.A.G.S. comes into the picture. "A persona that I can put on and take off and put myself in a different head space to create and perform," the moniker empowers him to greater heights. He released his first solo record in 2015, an EP called 'Cellophane', and his self-titled debut full-length arrived two years later, with the 'Lost Tapes' EP and a further series of singles following.
Douglas' marked growth in vocal prowess, musicality and lyrical bite is evident in M.A.G.S.' new chapter for 2023. It kicked off with the single 'Elephant', exploring the gritty underbelly of modern rock music from a surrealist point of view. "I really let my imagination run wild as I was making this song,"" he says. "Lately I've been mastering all the different styles I've picked up over the years and blending them together to make something that is undeniably me. And I was fortunate to get to work with a producer like Jay (Maas), the intuition he has for my vision allowed me to take chances and dive into areas of my sound I hadn't yet explored. ADHD is something I struggle with daily. My brain takes me in multiple directions at once and I tend to expel most of my energy just trying to get things done."
