Funk Legend on Limited Edition Purple Vinyl LP!
Includes Covers of Songs by Dr. John, The Meters, Allen Toussaint, Aretha Franklin & Prince!

In 2020 American funk and soul jazz saxophonist legend Maceo Parker released his first soul album in 8 years, entitled Soul Food - Cooking with Maceo. After selling out the first pressing, The Funk Garage, a new imprint of the Mascot Label Group, is releasing a second pressing - available for the first time on 140-gram purple vinyl.

Recorded at House of 1000hz in New Orleans, this album features Parker's signature punchy saxophone sound, as well as an ensemble from New Orleans - multi-instrumentalist Ivan Neville (keyboards), Nikki Glaspie (drums), and Tony Hall (bass) - who mix together to create a fresh selection of soul-funk-infused jazz classics, as well as a few Parker originals.

Produced by Eli Wolf (Norah Jones, Madlib, Al Green), the rich flavors and sounds of New Orleans weave their way through the album, and Parker's band takes on iconic songs of the Mississippi masters such as Dr. John's "Right Place, Wrong Time," The Meters' "Just Kissed My Baby," and Allen Toussaint's "Yes, We Can Can." Additionally, the album features takes on unique covers of Aretha Franklin's "Rock Steady," Prince's "Other Side of the Pillow," and David "Fathead" Newman's "Hard Times." We also get funky workouts from Parker's own back catalogue on "Maceo" and "Cross the Track."
