This production continues Audites publication of the Mahler Symphonies in 180g-vinyl format. Following Symphonies Nos. 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7, Symphony No. 2 is now immediately available.
In the Second Symphony different types of music characters are connected, ranging from folkloristic, religious-associative and serenade-like elements to Brucknerian intensifications and novel alienation. Mahlers own programmatic references offer an important means of approaching the idea behind this Symphony.
The live recording of 8 December 1982 was made in the Herkulessaal of the Residenz in Munich; the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir perform under the proven leadership of the Mahler specialist, Rafael Kubelik.
