This is the fourth album from One for All, the group featuring Eric Alexander and other talented New York musicians. The End of a Love Affair is also the group's debut album for the Japanese independent label Venus Records.
One for All is one of the few modern groups that play straightforward, hard bop jazz in the 21st century. The ensemble opens the album album with "The End of a Love Affair." The thick sound of three horns and steady and lively beat of drummer Joe Farnsworth are the highlights of this appealing piece. The mix of standards and original compositions work well together. David Hazeltine's "How Are You?" and Alexander's "Shinjuku Waltz" are especially strong.
