The Phasemation PP-500 MC Cartridge accurately inherits the lineage of Phasemation's flagship cartridge PP-2000, which achieved popularity after its release at the end of 2015.
While Phasmation reduced the cost, they have ensured the PP-2000's fundamental performances such as the auditory lateralization, spatial reproducibility, medium-higher tone having high freshness, and lower tone resonance.
New Magnetic Circuit Design
The technology of the flagship model PP-2000 is applied the PP-500's magnetic circuit structure. Therefore, just like PP-2000, the PP-500 an excellent magnetic field with high efficiency and uniformity.
Consequently, the output is increased without making the vibration system heavier.
Improved Trackability by Readjusting the Vibration System
In order to aim for optimum sound quality in this class, Phasemation improved the PP-300's vibration system, adopting the base made of duralumin and tuned it exclusively for the PP-500.
Inheriting the High Quality Materials for HiFi Audio
High quality materials for high fidelity sound verified in PP-2000 and other models are inherited and they are well-acknowledged until now for the following parts: cantilever made of pure boron material, magneto coil made of 6N oxygen-free copper wire, pure iron coil bobbin, damper, and so forth.
For the body, the well-acknowledged Diamond Like Carbon (DLC)* coating has been adopted continuously. The unclouded sound quality being well suited for the rigidity and vibration-damping properties have been realized.
*DLC(Diamond Like Carbon)is a generic name of a carbon film to be produced with vapor phase synthesis utilizing ion processing and the high rigidity and high electric insulation similar to a diamond are provided for it.
'The whole is greater than the sum of the parts' is the perfect description of the sound of the Phasemation PP-500 low output moving coil cartridge. In short? The Phasemation PP-500 cartridge is an extremely musical sounding, low output moving coil cartridge whose overall performance transcends its readily identifiable sonic signature....
The Phasemation PP-500 strikes me as a cartridge that will appeal to a wide cross-section of readers. Specifically, here, I am thinking of Koetsu cartridge lovers. This transducer really hits it out of the park in that ever so critical midrange area and is capable of painting complex tonal palettes. But the Phasemation isn't a one trick pony either. The cartridge doesn't lack for dynamics, extension at the frequency extremes or make everything sound pretty....
There's no doubt in my mind that the Phasemation PP-500 embodies and achieves the company's mission statement with flying colors. There's also no question that the Phasemation cartridges designer/team carefully weighed all the different design variables and came up with just the right blend to produce a cartridge with no major weaknesses and a good tonal balance.... There's also no doubt that the Phasemation PP-500 delivers the goods for those, myself included, who value soundstaging and dimensionality in the recreation of a recording.
