Blue Note 80 Vinyl Reissue Series!
Acclaimed Debut On 180g Double LP!
Blue Note 80 Vinyl Reissue Series!
In honor of Blue Note Records 80th Anniversary, the legendary Jazz label is launching the Blue Note 80 Vinyl Reissue Series. Distinct from the Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series, this 2nd series curated by Don Was and Cem Kurosman features mid-priced 180g vinyl releases in standard packaging with albums spanning the many eras of the labels history presented by themes: Blue Note Debuts, Blue Grooves, Great Reid Miles Covers, Blue Note Live, and Blue Note Drummer Leaders.
On his acclaimed 2005 Blue Note debut Canvas, pianist and composer Robert Glasper proved he had jazz chops in abundance with his acoustic trio featuring bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Damion Reid, while a hip hop sub context lay just beneath the surface in the albums skittering beats, hinting at future directions that Glasper would take on albums like the GRAMMY-winning Black Radio years later. The album featured special guests Mark Turner on tenor saxophone plus vocalist Bilal.
"Blue Note Records continues the label's 80th birthday celebration with a new trio of vinyl reissues, with this latest batch including two of the crown jewels in their vast discography and a more recent gem from a future superstar... The more modern of the three re-releases comes from pianist Robert Glasper, an artist best known now for his contributions to Kendrick Lamar's work and the hybrid sound he established on his Black Radio releases. On Canvas, originally released in 2005, he stays mostly in piano trio mode, spilling out solos with an almost modern classical bent to them and revealing a deep romanticism. There are hints of his future brilliance via appearances by the singer Bilal and an early broken-beat experiment, but otherwise, it's his pure jazz heart that serves as this album's core." - Paste Magazine
