MOTOMAMI+ is the deluxe album from Grammy Award winning recording artist, producer and songwriter ROSALÍA. The original album, MOTOMAMI, was awarded the GRAMMY Award for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album, as well as four Latin GRAMMYs including Album of the Year. The album was Metacritics' highest rated album of 2022.
Rolling Stone en Español wrote, "It's a brave record… Genres are a thing of the past; there's room for everything here… what modern music should be: art and flavor, dembow, champeta, flamenco, bachata, hip-hop, piano melodies… …MOTOMAMI feels like a freight train from the future, hurtling right at us at full speed and no brakes. Rosalía is the power source behind it all."
The MOTOMAMI+ deluxe release boasts the original album, including favorites "LA FAMA" with The Weeknd, "SAOKO," and "BIZCOCHITO," and eight additional tracks on vinyl for the first time including smash single "DESPECHÁ."
Rosalía's widely experimental third LP may be remembered as one of the most ambitious albums of the decade - regardless of genre.
Motomami is as provocative and risky as it is creative. It showcases Rosalía as a master, twisting together the contradictory strands of Latin and Anglo pop with traditional and vanguard forms and fresh sounds into a gloriously articulated radical approach that makes for obsessive listening.
It feels rare to hear an album that's so experimental, that aspires to stretch itself out across genres and play with form, and that attains exactly what it sets out to achieve.
Rosalía isn't so much carving out her own lane as building her own ultra-modern, super-bendy sonic motorway. It's one you'll want to hurtle down again and again.
It's always a pleasure to write about a project like MOTOMAMI that contains multitudes yet is entirely unpretentious...It's just exciting to watch her fly.
The singer's third album clearly shifts Rosalía's music career into the next gear and speeds toward a future where pop music isn't defined by one language.
There have been many songs and albums that are generally in this innovative-pop-and-hip-hop lane, but it's hard to think of any that are based around such a jaw-droppingly talented singer.
On 'Sakura' Rosalía might as well be an angel, the undulating tone of her voice silencing even her own song's accompaniment. Motomami is the sound of an incredible voice indulging in her pop fantasy and excelling at it, but she makes sure to remind us as often as she can that really, she can do it all.
An impassioned, inventive pop album, one that stands out within the mainstream space it occupies and the more avant-garde corners of the music world that it clearly pulls from.
At times explosive and distorted, later deeply personal and poetic, Motomami proves that Rosalía is carving her own lane in pop, led by her masterful understanding of the pioneers whose work she builds on.
Rosalía once again emerges as a nearly peerless artist who can slip into any genre and execute it with ease.
