Soulful Funk and R&B Music On Vinyl LP!
A relentlessly funky, rare gem of a record full of tight grooves and red-hot guitar work a la James Brown and the JB's.
Singer, songwriter and guitarist Roy Lee Johnson is best known for his composition "Mr. Moonlight". The song has been covered by many artists including The Beatles on their album "Beatles For Sale".
The success from the Beatles' cover of Mr. Moonlight afforded Johnson the opportunity to form his own band. After little success with that group, he then formed another group, Roy Lee Johnson & The Villagers, which led to the self-titled album recorded for Stax Records in 1973. The music on the album was influenced by the funk style of James Brown. The group disbanded following the sudden death of 21-year old bass player Michael James.
