Arts released the eagerly-awaited complete Symphony cycle on 10 Hybrid SACDs in celebration of the composer's 100th birthday. ARTS, Oleg Caetani and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi worked five years to this large project and we are exceptionally pleased with the results! What makes this project so special is the unique conducting of Mr. Caetani, who has chosen to stay as close as possible to the composer's metronome markings. In this way he manages to capture the sarcasm, the opera-like parts of the Symphonies and the themes of death as well as anyone. In SACD surround sound this set will certainly excite all lovers of Shostakovich's music. The single discs, when issued previously, were warmly recommended by the press and have received highest scores and awards from such audiophile magazines as Suonare News, Japanese Record Geijutsu, Fanfare, MUSICA, Amadeus, BBC Music Magazine, Gramophone and on the internet with Classicstoday.com.
