Highly Acclaimed Female Vocalist On Vinyl LP!
For her ninth album as a leader, vocalist Sinne Eeg is once again joined by longtime collaborator pianist Jacob Christoffersen. The rest of the ensemble consists of drummer Joey Baron, bassist Scott Colley, and guitarist Larry Koonse.
The Danish jazz vocalist/composer Sinne Eeg studied at the Academy of Music in Esbjerg in 1997 where she graduated in 2003. She is highly acclaimed and is considered a major talent among the best of female jazz vocalists in Scandinavia. For the most part, she sings songs in English. Her distinctive vocals have earned her a loyal and ever growing fan base around the world as well as in her native country. As a singer, she is influenced by Nancy Wilson, Betty Carter and Sarah Vaughan, but with her personal touch of soft darkness, Sinne keeps the Scandinavian melancholy settled in her music.
"The news that Sinne Eeg is a much-admired jazz vocalist in Denmark might not grab many front pages, but the prizewinning 40-year-old is a genuine original and her stock is growing. A singer of laidback improv alertness and coolly lustrous tonality, Eeg balances a mainstream repertoire here with six thoughtful originals, astutely partnered by pianist Jacob Christoffersen and guitarist Larry Koonse, and the bass/drums pairing of Scott Colley and Joey Baron. Eeg suggests an earthier Diana Krall in the deft timing of her bluesy ballad The Bitter End; glimpses Betty Carter in the surefooted scatting of Head Over High Heels; boldly presents her own title track as a wordless vocal against Colleys rich pizzicato (followed by Christoffersens rolling, Jarrett-like groove), and sensitively avoids mawkishness in a wistful tribute to emotion-numbed orphans in Aleppo. The structures are mostly familiar, but the delivery is anything but." - John Fordham, The Guardian
"Learn to say this name: It's pronounced 'Seen-uh Eeg.' The Danish jazz singer, an established star in Europe, checks all the boxes; burnished tone, perfect intonation, swing, unerring taste and an adventurous streak. She is a complete musician who, remarkably, also has a gift for interpreting lyrics in a natural, conversational way." - Allen Morrison, Downbeat Magazine
"Danish vocalist Sinne Eeg has it all. With pitch-perfect delivery, a pen possessed of great depth and sincerity, and a voice owning a timbre capable of providing more warmth and comfort than a fireplace on a cold December's night, Eeg leaves the ears wanting for nothing Whether creating topical fine art, exploring the riches of the Great American Songbook, or sharing her own perspective on universal emotions, Eeg manages to cut straight to the heart. Hers is a voice that resonates with the sounds of beauty and truth." - Dan Bilawsky, JazzEd
"Her control, her phrasing and her tone is some kind of wonderful. Any words to sum up Sinne Eeg and this gem of a record, are never ever going to do her or it full justice. If you are a fan of Ms Vaughan, Ms Fitzgerald and Nancy Wilson and their ilk, then this is for you. Sinne is a bit of a chameleon vocally, track by track. One minute, smooth jazz, the next scat singing, the next a tearjerker ballad where there is no hiding place for the voice, and she shines as bright as The North Star in the cold Danish night sky. Her relaxed and innate style is at times, quite mesmerising.... 'Dreams'. Sinne Eeg. Wow! Just wow!" - Simon Redley, Music Republic Magazine
