Direct Metal Mastered Import Vinyl LP!
The musicians heard on this album have played together for years in the quartet called Speak Low. All the tunes except one were written by either Odd Riisnaes or Dag Arnesen. The exception is Billy Strayhorn's beautiful ballad "Lush Life," which fits nicely in with the overall mood of the album.
The overall feeling on Speak Low's debut album is music that is emotional, melodic and beautiful. And why not? This is an album that you will enjoy more and more, discovering new details with each hearing. The album gets a strong opening with Riisnaes' magnificent interpretation of "29.4," a date which must be especially dear to Odd. Odd's playing is of international class with Arnesen supporting and complementing on the synthesizer. Strong, deeply felt and beautiful!
"Lush Life" is one of the highlights on the album. Riisnaes' interpretation of this Billy Strayhorn tune is very personal. His big beautiful sound and lyrical playing is a joy to hear and also the other members contribute strongly. Enjoy the lyrical bass in the intro and listen to the groovy transformation into a 3/4 jazz waltz. Evident on this and the other tracks are the musicians feelings for time and structure.
