The vinyl series continues with Aja, the band's 1977 platinum-selling masterwork featuring the hit singles "Deacon Blues," "Peg," "Josie" and the elegant title cut. The LP has been remastered by Bernie Grundman from an analog, non-EQ'd tape copy and pressed on 180g vinyl.

Aja is a shining example of jazz-rock at its finest.

Steely Dan AJA - 2023 re-issue 180g LP

This LP is similar to, but better than my 1977 AB-1006 pressing. The overall EQ is about the same, but this new release is cleaner and crisper in the high frequencies (cymbals and such). The Bass is also tighter and a touch less compressed. The vocals and horns seem a tiny bit better "fleshed out" in my AB-1006 pressing, but that may be a compression artifact? I would give this a 5, as it is excellent, but the surface has some noise in places and I was not expecting that. I did my usual Ultrasonic cleaning before I played it. That usually guarantees a super quiet surface, but there are a number of spots where there are some ticks and crunches that really should not be there - IMHO.
