The two quartets, in A minor, opus D 804 and in D minor, opus D 810 ("Death & the Maiden"), were followed by a further quartet, the String Quartet in G major, opus D 887, which he wrote between the 20th and 30th of June 1826. It was to be Schubert's last quartet, and it completed a series of 20 string quartets, which he composed between 1810 and 1826. In all they reflect a breathtaking development of the string quartet as an art form.
