The first album by the Jesus and Mary Chain and possibly one of their best. With abrasiveness and psychedelic distortion, tempered by a beautiful sense of melody evident in every track, the Reid brothers developed a sound that was very much their own. Much of the melody is carried by the bass, which leaves the guitar as more of a textural instrument rather than a melodic lead.
