One Time Limited Edition Pressing On 180g Clear Vinyl LP!
Only 500 Copies Worldwide! Includes Bonus Track!
Miles Davis was in the process of forming his first classic quintet when he recorded this date. The trumpeter is featured on a quartet outing with celebrated bassist Oscar Pettiford (with whom Miles had already recorded for Blue Note in 1952 these were to be their last recordings together), pianist Red Garland, and drummer Philly Joe Jones (both of whom would also form part of the aforementioned quintet with John Coltrane on tenor sax and Paul Chambers on bass). The program consisted of four standards, a blues ("Green Haze"), and the original tune "I didn't", which was Miles's humorous answer to Thelonious Monk's "Well, You Needn't". The interpretations are generally lyrical and melodic, and even "A Night in Tunisia" sounds a bit mellow. The only quartet track from the 1952 Davis session with Oscar Pettiford has been added here as a bonus.
