Out Of Print! Only 1 Available!
Originally put out in 1966 on Atlantic Records, this release -- a Mobile Fidelity CD-exclusive -- captures jazz's resident 'chamber ensemble' in a concert taped in April of that year. At peak form before a very receptive audience, and in a spectacular venue for both performing and recording, Blues at Carnegie Hall is the result of a benefit concert for the Manhattan School of Music.
Musical director and pianist John Lewis decided to dedicate the first half of the MJQ concert to the blues, a specialty genre of the foursome -- who are now celebrating their 39th year together. With Milt Jackson on vibraphone, Connie Kay on drums and Percy Heath on bass, MJQ delivered a typical highly sophisticated and seemingly effortless performance.
Selections:
1. Pyramid
2. Bag's Groove
3. The Cylinder
4. Really True Blues
5. Ralph's New Blues
6. Monterey Mist
7. Home
8. Blues Milanese
