10th Album by The Moody Blues Features "Gemini Dream" and "The Voice!"
Long Distance Voyager, the 10th album by The Moody Blues, was their first to feature keyboardist Patrick Moraz (from Refugee and Yes). Moraz replaced co-founder Mike Pinder who had left the group in 1978 after Octave. Upon its release in 1981, Long Distance Voyager became the group's second #1 album in the U.S.
The songs on Long Distance Voyager were recorded at the band's own Threshold Studios. The songs were recorded and mixed by Greg Jackman, while Pip Williams was the album's producer. Supplementing the Moody Blues—Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Ray Thomas, Graeme Edge, and Patrick Moraz—was a string section performed by the New World Philharmonic, which Pip Williams arranged.
Long Distance Voyager is only partially a concept album, as only half of the songs relate to the "voyager" referred to in the album's title. The final three tracks comprise a mini-suite that combines themes of carnival jesters and the chaos experienced backstage at a rock show.
"Many of these songs rank with the band's best...This album should make anybody's short list of Moodies goodies." -Dave Connolly, allmusic.com
SHM-SACD (Super High Material SACD) is the ultimate Super Audio CD that utilizes the materials and technologies that were developed for the SHM-CD to further enhance the audio-resolution. These discs are made with polycarbonate developed for the screen of the liquid crystal display. As it has a higher transparency, players can read the signal more faithfully. Also, it excels in fluidity, which enables you to cast a more accurate pit. What works wonders for a low resolution format such as CD should offer even greater sonic improvements in a real high resolution format such as SACD.
