Released in 1969, Brave New World was the group's third album. It was the first album following the departure of founding members Boz Scaggs and Jim Peterman. Ben Sidran replaced Peterman on keyboards.

The album contains the song "Space Cowboy" and "My Dark Hour" which was the result of Steve Miller and Paul McCartney jamming together. The song contains the guitar riff that would later be made famous as the lead-in riff of "Fly Like An Eagle".
