10" Vinyl! Newly Remastered for Blue Note 75th Anniversary Vinyl!

Volume one of Genius of Modern Music features the first sessions Thelonious Monk recorded as a leader in 1947. These sessions include some of the earliest Monk recordings that would become standards including “Round About Midnight” which is now one of the most popular jazz compositions ever. This first volume of Genius of Modern Music belongs in every jazz collection.

Newly remastered for vinyl as part of an overall Blue Note 75th anniversary vinyl reissue campaign spearheaded by current Blue Note Records President, Don Was.

"It's impossible to overstate the importance of these sessions...the excitement of discovery permeates every measure, and Monk himself is in top form, his solos jagged and strange, yet utterly beautiful." -Rick Anderson,
