Rock Supergroup's Critically Acclaimed Debut on 180g Double Vinyl!
Contraband is the critically acclaimed debut studio album by American Hard Rock band Velvet Revolver. The super group consists of former Guns N' Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum, alongside Dave Kushner formerly of punk band Wasted Youth and Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland.
What began as a 2002 jam session involving Guns N Roses alumni Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, turned into The Project. A well-publicized search for a singer seemed to last forever, but when Scott Weiland, of Stone Temple Piolots fame, came onboard, The Project became Velvet Revolver. The music here includes many of Guns N Roses trademarks, including the blistering guitar of Slash, but Velvet Revolver adds a touch of maturity to the hedonistic style.
Contraband debuted at number one on the American Billboard 200 chart and was certified double platinum by the RIAA. The commercial success was helped by the impact of the singles "Slither" and "Fall to Pieces", which both reached number one on the Mainstream Rock Chart and The album's third single "Dirty Little Thing" peaked at number eight on the Mainstream Rock chart. The band won a Grammy Award when "Slither" was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2005. The band toured extensively for 19 months in support of Contraband. They toured both the United States and Europe twice, while also performing in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
Originally released in 2004 and long out of print, the beautiful re-issue by Music On Vinyl in 2014 celebrates the album's 10 year anniversary.
