The great Wilson Pickett will be forever known as one of the original classic soul pioneers who had a knack of mastering funk grooves drenched in soul, rock & pop. He made some of the greatest sides ever for Atlantic, where he spent almost two decades creating some of the grittiest soul music ever waxed.
In 1967, Wilson "The Wicked" Pickett was honored with his first greatest hits collection by our good friends at Atlantic Records simply titled The Best Of Wilson Pickett. This stunning array of his major hit singles, most of them backed by Steve Cropper, Al Jackson and Donald "Duck" Dunn of Booker T. and The M.G.'s, dominated the upper rungs of the soul and pop charts throughout the sixties, truly illustrating how important his force was and still is over five decades since!
The man was important in bridging all types of rhythm and blues music to a much wider audience, churning out not only soul smashes but pop masterpieces. Most of his biggest hits have been covered by contemporaries like The Rascals, Solomon Burke, Jackie Wilson, The Supremes, B.B. King, Mitch Ryder, Bryan Ferry, just to name a few...
Jam packed with the original recordings of solid senders like his classics "In The Midnight Hour" "Mustang Sally" "Funky Broadway" and of course "Land Of 1000 Dances", The Best Of Wilson Pickett album is virtually an encyclopedia of FUNK!
In honor of the legendary "Wicked Pickett," Friday Music is very pleased to announce for the first time ever the stunning 180 Gram Translucent Gold Audiophile Vinyl release of The Best Of Wilson Pickett. Mastered from the mono Atlantic Records tapes by Joe Reagoso (Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Spinners) at Friday Music Studios, these classic tracks truly reach sonic heights in the high fidelity audiophile domain.
