Cult favorites, XTC, return to witty, lush pop/rock songs with Oranges & Lemons. This 1989 follow-up recording to Skylarking reached the charts in both Britain and America. Two songs also hit the charts: The Mayor of Simpleton and King For A Day. Originally released on Geffen Records and produced by Paul Fox and XTC, Oranges & Lemons was XTC's 12th album. Considered one of the smartest, catchiest bands to emerge from the punk/new wave era of the late 1970s, critics have called XTC 'the great lost pop band.As an art/rock band in the punk/new wave world, XTC had a knack for being out-of-step with the times. But, good music prevails and XTC lives on.
