Honestly is the debut album from Adam Levy and the Mint Imperials on Stella Records. Recorded entirely on analog equipment, this collection of original compositions showcases Levy's distinctive guitar work and the band's tight, soulful arrangements. Honestly is more than just an album title; it's a promise of raw, unfiltered musical truth captured in every note.
Grammy Award winner Adam Levy is an acclaimed guitarist, known for his work with Norah Jones, particularly on her breakthrough album Come Away with Me. His versatile style encompasses Jazz, Pop and Rock. The full force of Adam Levy's songwriting is in play on his six solo recordings, including 2015's lyrically driven Other Desert Cities, powerfully coming through in the warmth and expressivity of the analog medium.
Experience Adam Levy & the Mint Imperials as though you were sitting in the room. Sourced from the live recording Master Tape at Studio47 November 13, 2023.
Original recording on Otari MX-80, mastered with a 1/2 inch 1/2 track Otari MTR-10. 1/4 Inch copies sourced from 1/2 inch master. 15 ips, 1/4-inch 1/2 track master copy produced on Recording The Masters tape. 10 songs on two 10.5 inch reels.
Stella Records is a recording company founded in 2000 by Marco Stella and Ryan O'Connor of Reel To Reel Haven, with the mission of bringing the best possible recorded source material to everyone's house. Best is of course subjective, but for them, the ingredients you need to aspire to be the Best are not.
From Mic to 1/4 Inch 1st Generation Master Tape Copy
The recording process is 100% analog, maintaining the original wave form from microphone to your very own ¼ inch master tape copy.
Traveling from the mics through a SSL AWS 924 Delta console, to the 2 inch Otari MX-80, the signal never touches a digital interface.
The original recording is then mastered to a ½ inch 2 track Otari MTR-10 with brand new heads (combination of original unused Otari & Flux Magnetics).
From there, ¼ master tape copies are produced on one of several Studer and Otari ¼ mastering tape recorders.
** It is standard practice in all recording studios to keep the tape "tail out". This reduces "pre-echo" and it means that the tape should be placed on the right hand side of the recorder, re-wound and then played.
