Andrew Cartmel (born 1958) is a British author and journalist. He was the script editor of Doctor Who during the Sylvester McCoy era of the show between 1987 and 1989. He has also worked as a script editor on other television series, as a magazine editor, as a comics writer, as a film studies lecturer, and as a novelist.

Andrew Cartmel's Vinyl Detective novels are a cool, quirky and contemporary series of books whose central character is a record collector turned sleuth. The Vinyl Detective, who remains anonymous, has a big love of cool Jazz, and his prized possession is his extensive collection of rare Jazz LPs. The book series now runs to four superbly entertaining titles on Forbidden Planet's own Titan Books imprint.
