Originally released in 2003, Deja Entendu is the second album from the group Brand New. The album marked a stylistic change from their debut album "Your Favorite Weapon." Deja Entendu eventually was certified gold in the U.S. Two singles/videos were released from the album: "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" and "Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades." The title Deja Entendu is French for "already heard."
In the late '90s, Jesse Lacey, Garrett Tierney, and Brian Lane were in the band The Rookie Lot. Eventually they split off and in 2000 formed the group Brand New. The group Brand New has been described as alt rock, indie, and emo. They have been influenced by a variety of bands such as The Beach Boys, Squeeze, The Cars, and even Weezer, Foo Fighters, and Radiohead. Frontman Jesse Lacey is known for his affinity for the music of The Smiths and Morrissey.
