Newly Discovered Live Performance On 45rpm Vinyl LP!
Released for the very first time: A newly discovered live performance of Ella Fitzgerald in concert at a 'Jazz at the Philharmonic' show at the Shrine in Los Angeles. Ella At The Shrine was captured 10 days before the classic Ella At Zardi's, and the outro announcement on this recording references that upcoming gig. Now available on 45rpm black vinyl.
Ella Fitzgerald is likely backed by the same musicians who played on Ella At Zardi's, but this assumption cannot be verified, as the surviving tape does not include an announcement of the accompanists. The personnel, then, is possibly: Don Abney, piano; Vernon Alley or Joe Mondragon, bass; Frank Capp, drums.
Note: The surviving tape is not likely complete. In assembling the LP, the label detected gaps between blocks of tunes and edits in the applause. This album provides a best guess to the order of the tunes and is in any case a suitable sequencing.
