Special Limited Edition Vinyl LP!
Acoustic Reimagining of Tracks from His 2022 Album!

Tracks from Fantastic Negrito's 2022 album White Jesus Black Problems are acoustically reimagined on Grandfather Courage, including a reworked version of the Grammy-nominated track "Oh Betty," and "Highest Bidder."

"If you want to take your mind, body, and soul on a trip check out the reimagined recording of 'Highest Bidder' through the lenses of my touring band," Negrito shared in a statement. "At the time, I was listening to a lot of African drum patterns, and that definitely influenced this song. I'm trying to convey what I see when I walk down the street here in Oakland."

The album White Jesus Black Problems was inspired by a search into Negrito's ancestry where he found that his 7th generation grandmother was a Scottish indentured servant who entered into a common law marriage with an African American enslaved man, his 7th generation grandfather, in open defiance of the racist laws of 1750's colonial Virginia. Their love story is a healing testament to standing up against inhumane and brutal systems with love as your only weapon. Their perseverance is a lesson in today's polarized society on the virtues of constant struggle in the face of ignorance, fear, and violence, which is still present in the contemporary embodiments of white supremacy, bigotry, and hatred.

"The predicament of my 7th-generation grandparents was based on the notion of the highest bidder," explained Negrito. "People that wanted the best food, sex, drugs, best cars. Enslavement and indentured servitude both depended on the desire to achieve wealth and mastery over society and its inhabitants. Consumption, greed, materialism, and lies are the fuel to the nasty business of white supremacy."

This is a black vinyl shipped in a white sleeve. This does not include album artwork sleeve. This is an exclusive limited edition release.
