Limited Edition! 180g Vinyl!

Special 180g LP-only release of Grammy award winner Gustovo Dudamel's official debut concert with the Vienna Philharmonic at the Musikverein, featuring Mendelssohn's beloved Scottish Symphony.

This charity project is made possible through a cooperation of the Vienna Philharmonic, Gustavo Dudamel, the Musikverein, ORF broadcasting, and Deutsche Grammophon - all are donating their work and profits to a cause near and dear to Gustavo's heart. Proceeds from the album supports the purchase of instruments for the aspiring young musicians of El Sistema in San Vicente, the nucleo - or music education centre - in the northern-central Venezuelan state of Aragua. This area is classified as one of extreme poverty, and yet, despite widespread deprivation, human dignity is preserved through the participation of children in intensive music education, training and performance.

This particular nucleo is significant in that it represents the first center in the Venezuelan music movement to have been designed from the start both by and for the local community - with everything a music school needs, from lighting and ventilation to acoustics.

In the words of Gustavo Dudamel: "Being part of an orchestra when they have nothing else gives these children the chance to start building a real bridge towards achieving the dream of playing with the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra - or the Vienna Philharmonic. Little by little, it becomes reality rather than fantasy."

"The playing, as you'd expect from this great orchestra, is superbly confident and polished... Deutsche Grammophon's sonics are splendid, offering silken, diaphanous high strings, burnished brass, and an open, airy soundstage with lots of hall ambience." - Mark Lehman, The Absolute Sound, October 2012
