Modest Mouse's Modern Classic on 180g Double Vinyl!

The Lonesome Crowded West is the second full-length album recorded by Indie rock band Modest Mouse. The album was released on Up Records on November 18, 1997. The two towers pictured on the album's cover are The Westin Seattle. This release is available on vinyl for the first time in over a decade.

Subject to its own Pitchfork documentary, listed in numerous prestigious Best Albums of the 90s lists, and destined to be re-discovered by continuous generations, the Lonesome Crowded West stands as the defacto Northwest indie-rock record. Originally released in 1997, it not only helped shape the sound that came to be associated with the American Pacific Northwest, but across these sprawling, wide-open 15 songs, Modest Mouse helped redefine what was possible for guitar music. As such, the Lonesome Crowded West has often been mimicked, but its awesome open-hearted existentialism and manic ambition has rarely been matched. A modern classic that demands reappraisal.

Pitchfork Media ranked it #29 in their list 100 Greatest Albums of the 1990s, and the song "Trailer Trash" #63 in their list of the 200 Greatest Songs of the decade. Spin ranked it #59 in their list of the 100 Greatest Albums, 1985–2005, and Entertainment Weekly included the album in their list The Indie Rock 25. The A.V. Club has described the album as the band's breakthrough recording.

"Give this album a listen and you can be sure that you will be singing the rambling, catchy...vocals in no time. If you dig indie rock at its very best, go pick this album up." -Blake Butler,
