2022 Album on Red Vinyl LP!
Featuring "There's a Moon On" & "Vault of Heaven"!
The band's fourth album since their 2004 reunion and their eighth studio album overall, Doggerel was produced by Tom Dalgety and sees the return of bassist Paz Lenchantin and drummer David Lovering.
Joey Santiago comments, "This time around we have grown. We no longer have under two-minute songs. We have little breaks, more conventional arrangements but still our twists in there."
"We're trying to do things that are very big and bold and orchestrated. The punky stuff, I really like playing it but you just cannot artificially create that shit," Black Francis adds. "There's another way to do this, there's other things we can do with this extra special energy that we're encountering."
Though Pixies will probably never perform in Stetsons, Doggerel reflects an acceptance that their music doesn't have to conform to expectations. Leaning into the earthy influences of country and folk may not be an expected move for the band, but it feels surprisingly natural....Even with some of the edges smoothed off, Pixies are still as idiosyncratic as ever...
