Limited Edition 180g Purple Vinyl Double LP!
Two Original Albums Plus Bonus Tracks!
Quincy Jones has seen major success and influence as a composer and an arranger of jazz, blues, gospel, soul, and classical music for more than 60 years. The two albums presented here, The Quintessence and Big Band Bossa Nova, showcase the superlative versatility, creativity, and joy which Jones commanded when producing, composing and arranging music. Four additional tracks are included as bonuses.
1961's The Quintessence features saxophonist Phil Woods and trumpeter Clark Terry, among others. A reviewer for AllMusic states: " this is the sound of the modern, progressive big band at its pinnacle there isn't a wasted moment. It's all taut, packed with creativity and joy, and without excess or unnecessary decorative arrangement. It doesn't get much better than this."
Terry and Woods also appear on 1962's Big Band Bossa Nova, along with pianist Lalo Schifrin, guitarist Jim Hall, and (on "Soul Bossa Nova," which Jones has said he composed in 20 minutes, has been used in many film and TV soundtracks, perhaps most famously as the theme song for the Austin Powers movies.
Big band jazz with a twist of swing and Latin -- these albums present Quincy Jones at the prime of his musical powers.
