Austrian singer Simone has consistently released charming and wonderful albums from the Japanese label Venus Records over the years, many of them musically directed by brilliant pianist/arranger John di Martino. They got together again for this collection of Hawaiian songs, interpreted from a jazz musicians' perspective and performed with superb musicianship.
Instead of authentic Hawaiian music, many of the tracks are more accurately described as Hawaiian-inspired jazz bossa. The star-studded band includes such first-call New York musicians as Aaron Heick on flute, Paul Meyers on guitar and James Genus on bass. Latin percussionist Chembo Corniel adds color by employing various instruments.
The lovely voice of Simone seems to possess an ability to relax, calm and heal. As with most Venus LPs, the recorded sound is of superb quality. You'll find yourself smiling a lot when listening to this LP! Recommended to fans of female vocals as well as audiophiles! Sharp-eyed collectors will notice a title misspelling on the cover and the label "Aromas" smell sweet; it only adds to the import charm!
Recorded at The Avatar Studio in New York on April 30 & May 1, 2010. Mixed and mastered by Tetsuo Hara.
