"The blues is a tone that putes me in contact with a lot of things, culturally, spiritually, cosmically. I really enjoy it, and I'm not going to let it go, because it's that good." - Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal is not only a distinctive and soulful blues singer and guitar player, but also a globetrotting multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, ethnomusicologist, musician's advocate, and the winner of two Grammy Awards. His passion for musical discovery, particularly in tracing American musical forms back to their roots, has seen Taj journey to the Caribbean, West Africa, Hawaii, Europe, the South Pacific, Australia, South America, and various continents of the United States. His music reflects this global perspective, incorporating sounds and instruments from everywhere he's lived and traveled. A self-taught musician, with a remarkable voice ranging from gruff and gravely to smooth and sultry, he is known as a master of the National Steel and Dobro guitars, whilst playing another 20 odd instruments.
This LP features a Taj Mahal solo performance, recorded live at KSAN-FM studio, San Francisco, March 1971.
