Set in India, the film incorporates the music of acclaimed director Satyajit Rays own films, scoring from early Indian Merchant-Ivory films, and hit songs as well as deep album cuts by the Rolling Stones and the Kinks. Grammy award winning music supervision is by Randall Poster, Wes Andersons long-time collaborator.

The film also features Waris Ahluwalia, Amara Karan, Barbet Schroeder, and Anjelica Huston, with Natalie Portman, Camilla Rutherford, Irrfan Khan, and Bill Murray in cameo roles. The 2007 film follows three 'dysfunctional' brothers on their journey to reconnecting with each other.
