Legendary Pop-Folk Group on 180g Vinyl LP!
Featuring the Grammy-Winning Hit "Tom Dooley"!
Known as the originators of the folk music craze of the '60s, the original Kingston Trio consisted of Dave Guard on banjo, Bob Shane on guitar, and Nick Reynolds on guitar and bongos, with all three on vocals. They introduced a sound that was destined to revolutionize the recording and entertainment industry, and influence a generation of students, adults and teenagers alike.
The former university students started at the now-famous Purple Onion nightclub in San Francisco where they were booked for a week's engagement. Eight months later, lines were still forming outside the same club to see the trio. In September 1958, "Tom Dooley" hit the charts with a bang, where it remained for 21 weeks and sold nearly 4 million copies.
The Trio followed with multiple million-selling albums and singles, rapidly becoming the hottest attraction in the world. This was known as Kingston-mania, a prelude to Beatle-mania of 1964! The Kingston Trio made their mark on American and world music and pop culture with their songs, appearances on the cover of Life magazine, "Best Group Of The Year" and "Best Show Attraction Of The Year" honors, and Grammy awards, including a Grammy Hall of Fame Award for "Tom Dooley". Their recording of "Tom Dooley" has also been inducted into the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress, and the Grammy Foundation named it one of the Songs of the Century.
The songs and performances spotlighted in this fine collection are all bona fide hits, a pleasure to hear and remember for years to come!
