Over many years Opus 3 has from time to time been asked to offer Analogue Tape Copies. At the end of 2014, the first copies were sold in Sweden and the response was overwhelming.
When Opus 3 Records creates an Analogue tape copy, it is always a One to One Copy where, for example, no analogue sub-master is in between, in order to make it as good as possible with no added distortion, noise and wow and flutter, etc.
The drawback is this process takes a lot of time, because all the tracks have to be copies one by one which is the reason the Analogue Tape are high. Because of the way this is done, production is limited to a maximum of 50 pieces. The upside to this process is you are guaranteed to have the best sounding Analogue Tape Copy.
Knud Jorgensen, one of Sweden's best swing pianists, here with Sture Akerberg on bass and Johan Dielemans on drums, offers his own, personal and dynamic interpretations of numerous classics of swing: Satin Doll, Too Late Now, You Look Good To Me, My Heart Stood Still, etc.
"Jorgensen's inspiration was Duke Ellington, and appropriately the set begins with a seven-minute version of Satin Doll. The other six pieces are standards... These are very good versions, with a very firm musical presence by Jorgensen, quick but limpid pacing, and lively backing by both bass and drums. The songs are "jazzed," but their melodies are not distorted. The result is that this is a terrific recording. Happily the analog tape has aged well." - Gerard Rejskind, Ultra High Fidelity Magazine No. 90
"Come now, there aren't any volcanoes in Denmark!" I hear you cry.
"True indeed - but you are forgetting Knud Jörgensen! Naturalized Swede he may be, but he makes no secret of his antecedents. His way of speaking tells you as much, though his musical language is international. This, then, is the Danish volcano. Do not be deceived by the titles on this record. No question here of easy jazz or cocktail piano. Musical Molotov Cocktails would be an adapter description. Primitive power, dynamite, and dynamics." - Lars O'Månsson
"The fact is, the piano playing is so abundantly varied that the recording is quite un-turn-offable. Elegantly weightless loops of melody mingle with raunchy harmonies in a high-voltage crackling" - Musik & Ljudteknik
* Reel To Reel Master Tapes do not include cover art
** It is standard practice in all recording studios to keep the tape "tail out". This reduces "pre-echo" and it means that the tape should be placed on the right hand side of the recorder, re-wound and then played.Features:
