The 11th studio album from the Red Hot Chili Peppers includes the single "Dark Necessities".
Production for the album actually began in 2014 but was put on hold for 8 months due to bassist Flea's broken arm after a snowboarding accident. The delay forced them to search for a different producer. They ultimately abandoned the previous songs and wrote new songs for the album at the request of producer Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse.
The album cover is by the artist Kevin Peterson. Anthony Kiedis in a 2016 interview with the Kevin and Bean show said, "Normally we get a little more high brow artsy, and this just felt extremely warm and human, even though its animals, it felt human. And its also us. Chad is the bear, Josh is the girl and Flea is the raccoon and me as the funny little raven out front."
