180g Vinyl LP!
Mastered From Original Mono Tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound!
Plated & Pressed at RTI!

Cut from the original mono tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound (first time vinyl has been cut from tape)

Legendary recording starring Mary Martin and Ezio Pinza, produced by Goddard Lieberson and recorded at the legendary Columbia 30th Street Studios

Winner of ten Tony awards including Best Musical as well as the Pulitzer Prize

Original cast album was added to the National Recording Registry in the Library of Congress on March 21, 2013 for long-term preservation

For their fourth work together, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II wrote one of the great musicals in Broadway’s history, South Pacific. The musical opened on April 7, 1949 at the Majestic Theatre, and enjoyed one of the longest runs on Broadway up to that time (1,925 performances); it deservedly won the Pulitzer Prize, along with a plethora of Tony Awards®. Upon its release, the original Broadway cast recording became the longest running number one record in history. The legendary recording features Mary Martin and Ezio Pinza, was produced by Goddard Lieberson and recorded at the historic Columbia 30th Street studios. Interestingly, the album was released at a time when record formats were evolving. South Pacific, as a result, became responsible more than any other single recording for converting the record buying public over to the new 12” LP format.

This is the first vinyl reissue of this album cut from the original mono tapes by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound, pressed and plated at RTI on 180-gram vinyl and housed in a Stoughton old style "tip-on" jacket.
