Originally released in 1968 by Atco Records, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is Iron Butterfly's most celebrated recording, and for a time, the biggest selling record in Atlantic Records' history. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 chart. It was certified gold in 1968 and by 1993, was certified platinum with over 4 million copies sold. Included on this Mobile Fidelity CD are three versions of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida; the original recording (17:05 min.); a 'single' version for radio airplay (2:53 min.); and a live version that's 18:51 minutes long. The original master tapes were obtained by Mobile Fidelity for all three renditions of this classic recording. The original album was produced by Jim Hilton and Richard Podolor and recorded at Ultra-Sonic Studios in Long Island, New York and at Gold Star Studio in Hollywood, California.

It's time for this monster molten metal masterpiece to get the respect it deserves. Don't expect this album to be more than it is, hoping for the fluid guitar of Hendrix or the concise hits of the Beatles. Instead, immerse yourself in the newfound freedom and exploration of what was suddenly musically and sonically possible in 1968. The title track is 17 minutes of pure pounding phuzz-tone pleasure, and back in the day every kid I knew could perfectly paddle the drum solo with two fingers on their school desk. Some of us still can.
