Folk singer Damien Rice was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1973. He was originally a member of the rock group Juniper who had hits in Ireland with “Weatherman” and “World is Dead”. He left the band in 1998 to pursue his own career.

"After a brief respite in Europe, Rice returned to Dublin to focus on music once again, scrounging up enough money to record a demo. He sent it to producer/film composer David Arnold (Björk, Nina Persson, Paul Oakenfold), and luckily for him, Arnold loved it and set Rice up in his very own mobile studio to make a record." - MacKenzie Wilson, allmusic.com

His debut record, "O", released in 2003, achieved triple platinum status and strong reviews. The album peaked at #8 on the UK albums chart and remained on the chart for 97 weeks, selling 650,000 copies in the US. The album won the Shortlist music prize and the songs "Cannonball" and "Volcano" became top 30 hits in the UK.

"On O, Rice was able to come off as sensitive and emotional without seeming sappy or cheesy, a difficult balance to attain, and certainly an impressive accomplishment. He was also able to write simple, pretty songs that still managed to have a voice and style of their own, and stick out from the rest of the acoustic guitar folk-pop." - Marisa Brown, allmusic.com

He followed up with his second album "9" in 2006. In the US, it was on the Billboard 200 for 10 weeks, peaking on its debut at #22. The album reached number 4 in the UK Albums Chart.

The first live album from Damien Rice was recorded November 2006 at an in-store performance at the Fingerprints Record store in Long Beach, California and was originally released October 23, 2007. This album includes live versions of songs from his 2003 debut 'O' and from the 2006 follow-up '9'. Originally released only on CD, this album is now available on 140g Vinyl!
