Gary Woodward (flute), Grant Gershon (harpsichord) and Roger Lebow (cello) perform J. S. Bach's Six Flute Sonatas, recorded at Hancock Auditorium, U.S.C., Los Angeles, California, on November 24-26, 1989. "The works on this recording are the touchstone for every flutist," writes Lebow. "The musical and technical challenges imposed by them are equalled by the riches contained therein; it is safe to say that these pieces hold their own in the instrumental literature of the Baroque."
This is a pure analog recording done exclusively with custom-built vacuum-tube electronics with the exception of the microphones. The microphones were set up in the ORTF configuration. No noise reduction, equalization, compression, or limiting of any sort was used in the making of this record.
