Limited Edition First Run on 180g Translucent Orange Vinyl! Only 1000 Copies! First Time Ever On Vinyl!

Spain’s albums should have been released on vinyl from the very beginning. Period.

How was this not the case? The 1990s that’s how. Omnivore Recordings and Spain are correcting this error in nature. For your listening pleasure, all three original Spain albums are being released on 180-gram vinyl. The first pressing of each title (1,000 copies) is on limited-edition colored vinyl, translucent blue for The Blue Moods Of Spain, clear vinyl for She Haunts My Dreams, and translucent orange for I Believe. Subsequent pressings will be on black vinyl. The Blue Moods Of Spain even includes the bonus track “Phone Machine” which was previously only available as 7" b-side.

Spain, the musical brainchild of Josh Haden, features his sisters Tanya Haden (Silversun Pickups), Petra Haden (Beck, that dog), and drummer Joey Waronker (R.E.M., Beck, Smashing Pumpkins) among other world-class players.

Collaborators aside, Spain is about Josh Haden (son of Charlie Haden), who created 3 amazing releases that may have slipped through the populous cracks the first time around, but are fully realized on limited edition colored vinyl for the band's run on LP.

The third album, I Believe, was released in 2001, after which Haden took an extended break from the band, recording a solo album for Dreamworks Records (later released on his own Diamond Soul Recordings).

"Strip most music of its fashionable, genre-specific accoutrements and there's precious little left. Except country, perhaps. It's with this in mind that Los Angelenos Spain go about their lovelorn business. There are no frills, no zeitgeist nods here, just the simplicity of the strum, the slide and the hushed confessions of Josh Haden - son of jazz bassist Charlie and disciple of the songwriter's old skool.

"Three albums in, 'I Believe' is a substantial offering awash with humble entreaties and doe-eyed, lounge affectations. Sure, the moniker may flirt outrageously with Monsieur Schmaltz, but there really are some sweet, sweet sounds lurking beneath the initially perceived pretence. The slow-mo beauty of 'Mary' showcases Haden's almost electronic, pitch-perfect coo (and with all genre gimmicks gone, the voice has to be exact), while the self-explanatory, nu-prairie hum of 'You Were Meant For Me' betrays a romantic absolutism that Nick Cave would be proud of.

"Like the curse on fellow Scott Walker obsessives such as Cousteau, too many record-buying folk will stick with their spoon-fed Coldplays to venture into the deeper realms of soft-focus acoustics. One suspects that the delicately-built Spain would only lose their precious muse in such star-studded company anyway."

Spirituals: The Best Of Spain, was released in 2003 and that could have been that, fortunately it was not.

Josh re-formed Spain in 2007 with all-new members and began playing gigs again. May 2012 saw the release of their first full-length album of new material in over ten years, The Soul Of Spain, and they’ve hit the road again, recently playing shows in Europe and returning to the States for concerts in celebration of their new album and their catalog vinyl reissues!

Experience Spain as it was meant to be heard. On Vinyl! (Limited-edition, 180-gram colored vinyl for the first run.) Drop the stylus. Handle the jacket. And prepare yourself for what you might have missed the first time around - or relive how you thought it should be.
