First released in 1989 and although their second album, Doolittle was the first Pixies record to be made commercially available in their native US. An instant hit with both critics and fans, its slow burn success has since helped it to sell close to a million copies in the US alone. Among the many favorable reviews thrown Doolittles way, Pitchfork ranked it at Number 4 in their Best Albums of the '80s poll, while NME writers in 2004 named it the second best album of all time.

A first for both the band and 4AD, Doolittle is released as a Pure Audio Blu-ray which contains both the album in high definition (96 kHz/24 bit) 5.1 surround sound - having been remixed by audio specialist Kevin Vanbergen (FX) from the original analogue multi-tracks - and a HD transfer of the original stereo mix by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab. The results are a revelation, separating out elements from the recordings that are buried in the stereo mix and adding space, depth and a clarity to the performances without diluting their energy and impact. An absolute must for all Pixies fans.

Love this disc!!!

I am listening in 2.1 which sounds amazing. I have read online that the surround mix is not as great. But this is definitely worth picking up. I’m hoping they release more alternative rock in high resolution formats. I can highly recommend this one.

This Is A Great Version Of This Iconic Album. It’s A Must Own For Fans!

I bought this exact same title from a different company and I also paid a lot more for it. It’s just incredible to hear The Pixies in 5.1 surround sound and in high resolution. The really cool thing about this disc is that it comes in a card sleeve format instead of a bulky box. Many people don’t like this idea, but I own several hundred Japanese Mini LP CDs and I put the disc into one of the protectors that keeps it safe. You can get the MoFi fabric CD inset here and it will also help keep the disc in top notch condition. Vinyl might be “King” again, but I think owning various formats of music is still a very good idea. I would have never though I would see an incredible Blu-ray version of an album by The Pixies. When I get a chance to listen to this on our Surround Sound system , which is generally being used for streaming movies, I sit in the center of our den and it’s like I’m at the actual recording session of this album. I own a couple of the first Pure Audio releases, Amy Winehouse - Back to Black and Queen - A Night At The Opera. I will honestly have to say that I wasn’t exactly impressed with the sound of them. It seems that they have started making advances in the format and I look forward to buying some of the recent releases. I still prefer the card sleeve over the box, but that’s irrelevant if the sound quality is as great as this release.
