180g Import LP Features Soundtrack from 1960's Biggest Film!
Plus Bonus tracks from A Streetcar Named Desire, The Misfits & Viva Zapata!
The biggest grossing film of 1960, Spartacus starred Kirk Douglas in the story of the rebellious slave who led a revolt during the Third Servile Wars. The score was by six time Academy Award nominee Alex North, who also utilized a number of antique musical instruments to increase the dramatic effect. Norths prize instrument was the ondioline, similar to an earlier version of the electronic synthesizer, which had never been used
in film before. One theme is used to represent both slavery and freedom, but is given different values in different scenes, so that it sounds like different themes. The love theme for Spartacus is the most accessible theme in the film, and there is a harsh trumpet figure for Crassus. On this vinyl also a few bonus tracks from A Streetcar Named Desire and Viva Zapata!
