The Absolute Sound 40th Anniversary Best Sounding Music!

TAS Recommended! Rated a 'Best Audiophile Label Recording' in the November 2009 issue of The Absolute Sound!

TAS Rated 4.5/5 Music, 4/5 Sonics in the January 2009 Issue of The Absolute Sound!

In 1958, Frank Sinatra recorded Frank Sinatra Sings forÂ… Only the Lonely, one of five collections recorded for Capitol, consisting of saloon songs and bluesy ballads, lamenting lost love and heartache. Recorded over three days in Capitol's famous Studio A, Only the Lonely features sumptuous arrangements by Nelson Riddle who co-conducts here with Sinatra's resident concertmaster Felix Slatkin. The result is arguably his greatest ballads album.

Sinatra's tour de force versions of “What's New,” “Blues in the Night,” “Spring is Here,” “One For My Baby (and One More for The Road),” “Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry” and “Good-bye,” all became staples hereafter. Never forcing the emotion out of the lyric, 'The Chairman of the Board' let's it all flow naturally here and the result is a heartfelt affair, an ideal late-night album.

Mobile Fidelity mastering engineers have painstakingly re-mastered the titles in the Frank Sinatra Capitol recordings project with the utmost care and respect for the 20th century icon. As an artist, Frank Sinatra brilliantly interpreted some of America's greatest songs, preserving them for generations to come. On Sinatra's Capitol recordings: his voice, phrasing and excellent musical taste are all fully on display.

"...brings out the best in Sinatra's voice - his unmatched phrasing, impeccable timing, and emotional expressiveness. Compared to Capitol's 1998 digital remaster, his voice has far greater purity, better balance, and ebbs and flows more naturally, without grating on crescendos. And rather than sounding detached and forward from the piano and orchestra - which, with an improved sense of studio ambience now sound as if they've been released from a glass-domed prison - Sinatra's voice is well integrated." - Wayne Garcia, The Absolute Sound January 2009, Issue 189
