180g Audiophile Vinyl Double LP!
Numbered, Limited Edition Red Vinyl - 2000 Copies!

After Tony Joe White signed his first contract in 1967 he recorded multiple singles without success. In 1969 "Polk Salad Annie" charted in the U.S., reaching number 8. He recorded multiple albums in the late '60s and early '70s. As he became more popular other musicians started covering his songs, like Dusty Springfield's "Willie and Laura Mae Jones" and Brook Benton's "Rainy Night in Georgia". Both songs charted in the cover versions and made him a well-known artist. During the '90s and '00s he recorded more albums and singles, including classics like "Ain't Going Down This Time" and "(You're Gonna) Look Good In Blues". All his hits, fan favorites and unknown gems are included on this fantastic 2LP album.

Superb Sonics by Music on Vinyl

I purchased this lp on a flier to accompany my purchase of AP’s “Homemade Ice Cream”. To be honest, I didn’t really expect much from Music on Vinyl, but was bowled over by the dead quiet red vinyl and depth of sound. If I am honest, this lp is sonically equal to AP’s “Homemade Ice Cream”. Of course I purchased the lp because I was a fan of what I considered a novelty song “Polk Salad Annie” playing on my 1968 transistor radio. What I didn’t know then, was that this was hardly “just a novelty song”. It is a cultural touchstone and showcase of one of the greatest swamp blues voices of all time. Hearing this “novelty song” reproduced and reengineered to make my superb two-channel system reveal every nuance of his voice and guitar work is a joy to hear. I’m nowhere near a US Southerner, but Tony Joe’s Music makes me want to be one. Makes me want to wrestle alligator in the bayou. The entire lp is full of swampy musical gems, built beautifully by The Swampers of Muscle Shoals ... geeze, what didn’t Muscle Shoals stamp their influence on? Nice work, Music on Vinyl. Nice work.
